SCITUATE - Three parishioners today began a sit-in at St. Frances Cabrini Church in hopes of preventing the Boston Archdiocese from closing it.
Parishioner Jon Rogers went to church this morning after learning that the locks had been changed. But when Rogers arrived, the door was ajar and he went inside. Two other parishioners were also in the church.
The church was not scheduled to close until Friday. Parshioners opposed to the closing had planned to meet tomorrow night to discuss whether to start a sit-in.
‘‘We find ourselves in this building with the grace of God,'' he said. ‘‘We are here and we are going to fight for our church. We hope the community is with us.''
On Sunday, a standing-room crowd of 700 parishioners attended the final Mass at the church.
